Miss Williams
Year 1 Teacher

Year 1

Miss Williams, Mrs Moores and Mrs Haigh work in Year One. Miss Williams teaches everyday except Wednesday, when Mrs Smith will be teaching. We are also lucky to have Mrs Pollard, who helps with reading on Tuesday afternoons.

Year One is a transitional year between The Foundation Stage and Key Stage One so although our classroom has a slightly more formal layout, we still have similar areas of provision to Reception, including role play, water, sand, writing, construction, technology and an outside area, which children have access to during the school day. This allows the children to continue learning through play, in a creative and stimulating environment.

We have lots of exciting things to explore through our topic work. Our first theme is entitled Making Things Better. We will be learning all about different ways to keep healthy and how we have grown and developed. We are also going to be learning all about Florence Nightingale and might even be giving her a helping hand in our very own hospital ward in the classroom.

Later on in the year we shall be travelling 'Here, There and Everywhere' in our geography based topic. We shall be finding out what it is like to be a child in some very different parts of the world and listening to music, tasting food and playing some of the games enjoyed by other cultures.

As the summer approaches, we shall be finding out if Everything in the Garden really is lovely. Hopefully the children will all have green fingers and we shall be growing lots of different flowers and vegetables and conducting experiments to find out to make them grow.

So as you can see Year One is a very fun and busy place to be. If you want to know any more about life in Year One, please feel free to come and see us.
